Daimler originally began manufacturing cars in 1896. The Daimler Company Limited was founded in London by H. J. Lawson, and they set up their manufacturing base in Coventry. The company bought the right to use the Daimler name from Gottlieb Daimler and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft of Cannstatt, Germany.

Early 20th Century
1902: Daimler was awarded a Royal Warrant to supply cars to the British monarch.
1910: The company was purchased by the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA), which also made cars under its own name before WWII.
1933: BSA acquired the Lanchester Motor Company and made it a subsidiary of Daimler.
Mid 20th Century
1960: BSA sold Daimler to Jaguar Cars, which continued the Daimler line and added a Daimler variant of its Mark II sports saloon.
